Inspired by nature... Inspired by healing... Inspired by the universe.
![]() Artist and Jewelry designer since childhood, Rachel Leah Mckernan has always had an eye for beauty and a good sense of color and fashion. Rachel has childhood memories of painting rocks and designing simple beaded jewelry to sell and give as gifts to family and friends. Rachel was born and raised in New Jersey and in her teens moved to New York, traveling to Miami, L.A. and Europe as a fashion model. After many years of traveling within big cities, Rachel’s passion for nature led her to Costa Rica where her creativity was reflected in preparation of vegetarian cuisine for film sets, retreats and tour groups. At age 27, Rachel desired to submerge herself back into society and moved to Eugene, Oregon, her current place of residence. While in Eugene, Rachel continued her career as a chef, working as head chef and part owner in a raw food restaurant. She soon discovered the Saturday Market, a place where artists could vend their unique, hand-crafted designs and soon began vending her jewelry. It was here that Rachel established her business, Jewel of the I and took jewelry designing to the next level. Each individual jewelry piece is inspired by Rachel’s passion for the healing properties of color, crystals, stones and ancient jewels, as well as, nature, culture, and fashion. The balance of color and shape reflects the considerable amount of time Rachel spends creating each piece. Not only are her designs pleasing to the eye, they are comfortable and durable. Rachel has been fortunate to work from home, succeeding at her jewelry business, and spend valuable time with her three beautiful sons ages 13, 7 and 1. |
